Overview
Maria Genao is the Associate Dean for Diversity and Inclusion at Hamilton College. Maria provides oversight for four key functional areas: International Students, Accessibility, Religious and Spiritual Life and the Days-Massolo Center. In this inaugural, student-centered role, Maria serves as an advocate for students from historically marginalized identities by leading the development of a vision, strategy, and accompanying initiatives to encourage a systemic and inclusive campus culture that celebrates and respects the unique qualities of all its members. She is also responsible for overseeing and leading the response to bias incidents involving students, co-advises the Questbridge Scholars program, serves as liaison to the Hamilton Posse Scholars program and collaborates with students, staff and faculty across campus to engage equitable and inclusive practice within their spheres of influence.
Maria is actively involved in NASPA Student Affairs Professionals in Higher Education serving in various volunteer capacities, most recently as national co-chair for the Latinx/a/o Knowledge Community and on the 2020 national conference planning committee. Prior to her role at Hamilton, Maria has served at various types of institutions including University of Colorado at Boulder, Northwestern University, and Northeastern Illinois University. She is in the process of completing a Doctorate in Leadership and Innovation at New York University.
